Ok to make a long story short, me and my roommate started making beer a bunch of years ago. We ended up moving out and I gave him all the brewing supplies. A week or so ago I went to my new local Home Brew Shop. Even though it has been a wile since have made my own beer was confident in knowing what equipment I needed to buy and all that. I called up my old roommate and asked him for an old recipe that we used to brew a lot. I later emailed it to the shop and had them get all the ingredients together, so that I could buy the next day. The guy was really shooting me down about my recipe and trying to tell me I didnt know what I was doing. Well I must admit its been 3 years since I brewed last and I have forgot a lot of the terminology but I most defenently got a solid idea of what i’m doing. Please excuse me for going off topic their but when it got to the part were I needed to buy the equipment I grabbed a few fermenting buckets and bottling bucket with a spigot but I could not find air lock lids for them. When I asked the owner for help finding the lids he arrogantly asked me why I needed one. I told him every time I brewed beer I fermented the wort in a air sealed bucket and put a “Three-Piece Airlock” on the lid to monitor the rate at which the bubbles were occurring so you I would have a rough idea of when it was time to bottle or second ferment the beer. At the time I didnt know what they called the Three-Piece Airlock but I described it well enough that he knew what I was talking about. He told me he didn’t sell them and they were obsolete. I told him I didnt understand, I thought that the airlock prevented air from getting in to the ferment but allowed gasses that were made from the brewing process out. He told me that all I needed to do is replace the lid and air lock with plastic wrap and secure it with a rubber band. Well that’s what I’m doing now. I just checked the fermenting beer and I can tell the plastic wrap is swelling and air wants to escape. Obviously I am doing a good job not letting foreign air in but am I hurting the beer by not allowing the new gasses to escape?

I like the regular coffee served at starbucks in the morning. Like the House Blend, Pike Place, Christmas Blend, etc. Just the regular tall coffee you get at Starbucks for $1.50.

I have 2 questions:
(1) If I want to make the same coffee at home, what would be a good equipment that can create similar taste? I am sure the starbucks stores use large equipment to brew the coffee. But for home use what type of coffee maker would be appropriate to create similar taste. If you know of any that are really good in your experience, please do let me know.

(2) Also, when you are making coffee at home, what starbucks coffee you should buy? The Whole Bean or the Ground? Does the coffee makers at home can make coffee from either Whole Bean and also from Ground?

In summary, I am trying to find out how make the same starbucks coffee at home and all the process/steps involved in it and what all I need to buy.

I was hoping to use this http://www.williamsbrewing.com/SIPHONLESS_FERMENTOR_P143C66.cfm siphonless fermentor for the primary fermentation of ale. Then transfering it to a 5 gallon glass carboy for secondary fermentation. Then i was wondering if i could transfer it back to that same siphonless fermentor to use as a priming and bottling bucket.
I am worried about all the transfers making it easier to contaminate the brew and also since the spigot is “above the layer of yeast sediment” how much beer i would be wasting using it as a bottling bucket because i think that most of the yeast cake would be left behind in the first and second transfer. Thanks for the input.

I don’t mean to be asking here, should you or can you give thanks TO other humans.

But if you are in the habit of giving thanks to God, as you conceive of God, for the different blessings in your life, do you ever think to thank God for what other humans did to make those blessings possible?

For instance, if you thank God for each meal you eat, do you ever think to thank God for the farmers who grew the grain or grazed the farm animals, and the equipment manufacturers and oil companies who provided those farmers with tractors and/or milking machines, and the feedlot operators and meatpacking plant workers who helped to convert the pigs, chickens, turkeys, cows or sheep to meat, and the railroad employees or teamsters who carried the meat and grain to the big agribusiness company who converted it into food appearing in your local supermarket?

Do you also think sometimes to thank the supermarket manager, the stockboys, and the cashiers who made it possible for you to purchase your meat, milk or bread products? Not to mention the manufacturers of the big refrigerator units at the supermarket that kept the meat & milk cool until you purchased it, and the USDA inspectors and local health department inspectors who worked to make sure that the food for sale in the market was safe to eat?

Or suppose you’re a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Zoroastrian, Hindu or believer in some other theistic religion, and you’re a coffee drinker or a tea drinker.

When you offer a prayer of thanks to God for a cup of your favorite brew in the morning, do you also give thanks to God for the plantation laborers who picked the tea leaves or the coffee beans, the plantation managers who organized their labor, the winnowers and cleaners who separated the tea and the coffee beans from stray bits of dirt & straw & weeds, the laborers who packed the cleaned tea leaves & coffee beans into boxes or bags, the railroad employees or truckers who carried the packed tea & coffee to the local port for loading onto ships, the crews on the ships who carried the stuff to an American port for unloading, the longshoremen and/or crane operators who unloaded the cargo ships, the truckers who carried the coffee & tea to some big corporation for further processing — and so on and on?

Because if you truly believe in God, and if you think that God created the entire world and that in a sense He rules the entire world, all of these different humans employed by the food industry are “doing God’s will” in providing you with your breakfast, aren’t they?

So should you show some gratitude to them, and some concern about their welfare, while you enjoy the products that God has provided to you partly through their labor?

<img style="float:left;margin: 0 10px 5px 0;" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41IiP%2B289JL._SL75_.jpg" title="Religious Believers: Do you ever give thanks to God for the works & contributions of other human beings?" alt="41IiP%2B289JL.
