Home Brew Beer

During the 1990s, a study was conducted to determine why there was a relatively low incidence of coronary heart disease among French, despite their diet being one of the fat. The answer points to a moderate and regular citizens of wine, which is known as the "French paradox".

It is indeed ironic that intoxicating liquor may provide health benefits, but studies showed that the wine has a great amount of resveratrol – a type of antioxidant found in red grape skins. In the case of red wine, grape skins containing resveratrol are fermented from grapes.

Extensive research on the effects of resveratrol was achieved and, more often than not, the results were promising. Studies were made on worms, flies, fish and mice, and a correlation between the resveratrol and anti-aging has been created. Initial results show that the chemical compound may have both an anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory. Currently, resveratrol is also studied to see if it has the potential to fight against diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

So there is no reason to be afraid of moderate consumption of red wine. Benefits can be obtained by drinking a glass, about five ounces per day for women and one or two drinks per day for men.

There is a caveat. Health benefits can be derived from drink wine when consumed moderately. Drinking more than ten ounces a day can actually be harmful to your health. This means that you increase your risk to health if you drink more than two glasses of wine per day. Similarly, reducing the wine for six days, only to drink the entire award week on the weekend will not have a positive effect.

As with most things, moderation is key. As long as you take the wine in small quantities you can toast your way to a long life and good health.
