is it absolutely neccessary to put in your grain bag while the water is still cold? I just made a batch of IPA and I waited until my water was at 155 before I put in the grain bag, then I held it at that temp for 25 minutes. Is the only difference really the sugar content of the wort and the color?

No your fine, that works perfectly well. In all grain brewing you're using enzymes to convert the starch to sugar at about 155. Since you're getting all the sugar you need from the malt extract, the grains you use with an extract recipe is mainly for color and flavor- so it doesn't really matter what temp it goes in at, so long as you don't take the temp over 180 because that's when you start imparting flavors of the husks (tannins) that are unfavorable...

Tell me brewing quality homemade beer, is not this complicated. I appreciate the work done here, but, I've tasted great homemade beer...with much less work. Can someone comment?

when brewing beer its important to ensure that you have an IQ over 6. I know boiling water can be tricky at times and following instructions is next to impossible. But as long as you just be patient and don't get frustrated you can make delicious home made beer in about 6 weeks. And it wont taste like the piss you get at the store!

You should always use SI units, not joke american units. If you don't do that, atleast say which units you're using. In the beginning you said 180 degrees without mentioning Fahrenheit for example.

It is true you can, but depends what you are use to drinking. I do it this way and its by far some of the best beer I've ever tasted. Plus this way gives you more control on the taste of your beers.
